My Latest Book

I love to read, and I miss reading. As a mother of two littles I just don't have the time to sit down with a good book. On a good day I get fifteen minutes of reading time, but that's ok, it's just the season I'm in right now. I do make the effort though, because I want to be sharp, I want to learn, and I want to READ.

Right now I'm reading Passionate Housewives Desperate For God and loving every second of it.

I usually read a chapter before my afternoon nap (it helps me turn off my busy brain) and maybe a few pages before sleeping at night. By nightime though, my brain is dead tired and usually all I see are squiggles.

What are you reading? And when do you read?

Paint...in a different way.

Anyone else sick and tired of finger painting?
No?
Just me?
Oh.
I would have thought more.
Anyway.
I'm sick and tired of plain ol' finger painting, and so are my daughters. I also don't like the mess.
We tried something new, which was to water down some tempera paint in a squirt bottle and let The Fripits squirt the trees with blue paint. We also "painted" a piece white cardstock. The original idea came from Family Fun, but you were supposed to use an old white sheet to squirt on.
This held Fripit's attention for about five minutes. I think it would have lasted longer if there were more bottles with different colors, and a big white canvas (sheet, towel, etc.)
We will be doing this again as soon as I can get more squirt bottles.

Twisty Bread

Recipe:
2 tsp. dry yeast
1 tsp. sugar
1 cup of warm water
3 cups of flour
1/2 tsp. of salt
2 Tbsp. oil

Place all ingredients in bread machine. Run the dough cycle. When dough cycle is finished, have your child roll the dough out into a large circle with rolling pin. Slice dough into long thin pieces. Twirl the dough, place on cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture.

These are good.
Too good in fact.
So good I may be as large as Texas when I finish eating them all.

If you don't have a bread machine, don't worry. Use Kelli's recipe. Aren't her pictures beautiful?
And don't they make you hungry?

(Also, letting a toddler watch the bread machine do it's magic may give you enough time to do wash the measuring cups. Score!)

Why I'm a Stay At Home Mom

Blankie time

A wise mother of many once shared this idea. She has a lot of children. Maybe you have heard of her? The idea is that you train your children to sit in a designated are, we use a blankie, give them a few toys and they have to stay there till you let them get up. The "Abster" HATED this at first (as you can see in the picture) but has now gotten used to the idea. She can sit on blankie time quite happily for 10-15 minutes playing with her toys. Which gives me plenty of time to do things that require my full attention. Like chopping food with a sharp knife, or taking a short break on the couch. *Ahem*
I love blankie time, and Abster is accepting it as a part of life. *Smile*

In interest of full disclosure...here is a picture of me after a long day with my girls. Our days are happy, but FULL. And I find that my brain has usually turned to mush by 5 pm.
How about you? What do you look like at the end of the day?
(Is that a cup of coffee by me? At night? For shame, for shame...)

Make People

One activity, which will be done again, was to cut out different people from magazines. Then I chopped off their heads.
(Trust me, I'm a nice person.)
I gave The Fripits the bodies and heads, which she could match together. She had a lot of fun doing this and seemed to grasp the concept that people need heads. This came as a huge relief to me.

My favorite creation of hers was Abe Lincoln doing yoga.

This project kept my three year old entertained for 7 minutes. Which means I got to have a glass of water and gulp down some vitamins.

How cool is that?

A short Intro

I'm a young stay at home Mom (23 years old) with two little girls. "Fripits" my oldest, is 3, and "Abster" is 15 months old. Our days are busy, full of pb&j, sticky fingers, books, squeals, Fisher Price toys, and finger paint. I'm just trying to stay sane and make messes at the same time.
