Confession time again.

Here's the deal:

I don't like being in a group of just women. I find it awkward and unbalanced. I don't know what to say, so usually I just don't say anything. My mom has confessed to being the same way, maybe it's genetic?
I don't do "girls night" and often wonder why other women enjoy those kind of events.
I realize I'm the strange one.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be the only woman in a group of men, either. But if I had to choose between the two...I'll sit by Brian in a room full of men, thanks.
I just think things are more comfortable if there is a mixture of both men and women.
Why am I this way?
Perhaps it's because my two best friends growing up were the only girls in a family with three brothers, each. Their brothers were always around.
Maybe it's because I don't like drama, and women tend to be more dramatic.
After my friends and I got married and would have the occasional get together the men were always there. We wouldn't think of leaving them out, we need them. It's more fun when the guys are there...at least, that's how I feel.
Ladies Night, Ladies Bible Study, Ladies Luncheons, sleepovers, Ladies Night Out...I get invited to these a lot when I'm in the United States, it seems more popular there than it is here in Paraguay.
When invited to one of these Women Only events I usually hem and haw my way out, find a decent excuse, or in some situations just make myself go because I'm told it's good for me. Society says it is, and sometimes even preachers say it is.
I've heard many sermons directed to husbands and almost always is the "make sure your wife has time with her girlfriends" line.
I always turn to Brian and give him the "please don't" look.
I don't mind one on one with other women, I enjoy that...but ask me to come to your girls only party and I'll break out in hives just thinking about it.

Any other women out there like that?

I know EXACTLY what you mean ! =)
I also dont really "do" womens meetings. I like to have guys around - I guess having 4 brothers has made me that way .. and of course having a great husband/best friend.
However, after having seen several insecure, controlling, over bearing and not so nice husbands - I can totally understand the glorious freedom some of these women experience when they get times away just with other women.

I agree with Marion. I can see why some gals would need it, and sometimes I do just like to drive a while with the radio blaring (ALONE), but I'm no fan of girls' get-togethers. Ladies' Retreats get me all kinda nervous. I prefer "dates" with other couples... The drama you mentioned is the #1 factor for me. And I notice my firstborn has the same tendencies, to avoid the drama at all costs and gravitate toward mixed groups.

I so agree. I would rather be with my husband in a room filled with men than alone in a room filled with women. My mom is like that too, it may be genetic. I hate drama!!!!

You probably do so well with men because you have a rich history of men who love and respect you and treat you as an equal. Not all women are that fortunate and need groups of women in order to have a voice.

I love being with women. . . and men. But I enjoy the drama and nuances and like to see women all dressed up. I like hair and makeup and the smell of different perfumes mixed up in one room.

But I get what you are saying. And to your credit, you hide it well. I never suspected.

I don't hang out just with women cuz when I do they wake me up at terribly early hours to do things like go to spinning classes :-) I think that was the only "girls only" thing we ever did in CR :-) I'm with you. We are supposed to be one flesh, so if our husbands aren't around we are only half a person, right!

This cracks me up! This is soooo me. I am invited fairly often to do things with other missionary women here in Panama and I always get the "shakes". Just not a ladies day out kinda gal.
If I ever do things with just the female set I find that I prefer it to be with women older than myself be at least 8-10 years. Interesting...
